Elvex DeTune communications earmuffs are for voice communication in noisy environments. These ear muffs allows the user to adjust the frequency range that is transmitted through the circuitry and speakers. There is a volume control on these ear muffs that allows the user to set the sound level inside the headset, up to a maximum of 82 dB. The two control knobs allow the user to filter out the high and low frequencies independently of each other. When the filters are in neutral, or inactive, position the user will hear the environment almost as if no hearing protector was worn, except for the maximum sound limiter. The high frequency filter on this ear protection allows an aggressive filtering of the high frequencies, down to about 2,000 Hz. The filter eliminates 85% of the high frequencies within the adjustment range, and can be considered transparent. This product by Elvex also filters out important speech frequencies which fall in the range of 500-3.000Hz, therefore the filtering level is able to be sought out for an optimal environmental sound. The low frequency filter works in a similar fashion, allowing the user to filter out frequencies up to 600 Hz. The effectiveness of the low frequency filter is not as obvious as the high filter, but in can help imporve the ability to communicate. Lastly, there is an impact filter which is activated by impact sounds, such as a gunshot. The impact filter closes in a few microseconds and reactivates in about two milliseconds and because of quick recovery time, it is still possible to hear speech in an impact noise environment. The DeTune is equipped with an automatic 4-hour shutoff in order to conserve batteries. The ear muffs also use a rechargeable Nickel Metal Hydrate battery and a charger which is included. A recharge port can be used to connect other devices to the DeTune muffs. - 3 Filters for Sound
